Europe is in its deepest crisis. What is needed to lead the continent into the future?

Europe is deepening its divisions. As populist movements gain strength and acceptance of the European project wanes, conflicting national interests and a paralyzed EU push the continent to the brink – further intensified by external pressures from countries like Russia and China.
What role does Germany play in this complex situation? Amid escalating crises, this question has never been more urgent. The stability of longstanding partnerships, such as with France – the cornerstone of the European Community –is increasingly undermined by the rise of right-wing politics in Europe, while authoritarian and nationalist governments challenge a Germany-led EU. Conversely, there are calls for Germany to assert clear and bold leadership, even on a geopolitical scale.

In his insightful analysis, Herfried Münkler explores what is required to guide Europe into the future, addressing the associated dangers, challenges, and opportunities. This compelling and pivotal outlook reveals how Europe can be reimagined for the 21st century.
